Entries from 17 other virtual airlines made the selection difficult. The judges panel consisting of Sky Blue Radio staff and listeners brought a list of who they felt represented community. Each list was comprised of their selections and was varied, but Lynx was on everyone’s list of finalists.

On hearing of their selection Ivan Rivas, CEO of Lynx said, “I am very honored by your selection of Lynx Airways Worldwide as VA of the Year.” As Sky Blue Radio’s VA of the Year, Lynx will become a large part of the Sky Blue Radio family throughout the coming year.

Sky Blue Radio wishes to thank all those VA’s that submitted entries to the contest and to those VA’s that promoted their organization on the Sky Blue Radio airwaves. It was such a huge success that Sky Blue Radio will be offering anther VA Days weekend sooner rather than waiting until next year. Please keep your eyes peeled for another VA Days weekend in the coming months.

Honolulu is going to be holding the Friday Night Ops event THIS FRIDAY the 11th, which will run from 0100 to 0400Z. Instead of focusing on just one or two major airports, we are going to be lighting up the entire island chain with staffing for all fields.. even the little VFR pineapple strips. While it’s not firm yet, we are looking for support from the Oakland center with Oakland Radio (Pacific Oceanic) coverage from the west coast to give pilots non-stop ATC from the west coast to the islands, and back.

Hawaii is getting even better thanks to growing improvements in our ARTCC controller team, including a number of recent VATSIM “Iron Mic” awards (rewarded for controller “up-time” worldwide). We’re growing and rebuilding our team so we can support you better.

This event will be an excellentopportunity for seasoned and fresh pilots alike to get a taste for that blend between medium and long-haul flying, including radar-less oceanic flying. It’s quite fun!

Here’s the direct link to promotional image for this event as seen above: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19867470/FNO.png

In addition to the basics of the event, I’ve also provided a few helpful tools and suggested scenery packs to increase enjoyment for participants. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to shoot me a reply and ask.

Routes:
There’s lots of great places to pick up routes flown to and from the islands, such as:
www.Simroutes.com
http://flightaware.com/statistics/ifr-route/
http://www.vroute.net/

Scenery:
To make the event more engaging, the HCF ARTCC is recommending a number of freeware and payware scenery packs which are available to enhance the Hawaiian experience.

PAYWARE:
Honolulu – FS DreamTeam, FS9/FSX – 22.90 EUR
http://www.fsdreamteam.com/products_phnl.html (screenshots at the bottom of the page)

Hilo/Lihue – FS DreamTeam, FS9/FSX – 22.90 EUR (both Hilo and Lihue are currently sold together)
http://www.fsdreamteam.com/products_hawaii1.html (screenshots at the bottom of the page)

In my personal opinion, these scenery packs are an absolute MUST for flying to either of these three airports. The scenery is available for FS9 or FSX, is extremely detailed, yet has a very low framerate impact. FSDT is looking to extend development to a few other airports in the Hawaiian airspace.

FREEWARE (FS9):
Honolulu – FlightSim: phnl2007.zip (newer)
Honolulu – AVSIM: honov5.zip (older)
Lihue – AVSIM: lihue2.zip
Hilo – AVSIM: hilov3.zip
Kalaeloa – FlightSim: phjr07hr.zip
Puunene Maui International – FlightSim: phpn_v1f.zip
Barking Sands PRMF – FlightSim: dbwbks05.zip
Hana – FlightSim: phhn.zip and fix FlightSim: phhn_fix.zip

Now for the real news of the day! As you can see from the logo above, VAFlash will be undergoing a transformation of sorts. The whole site will be redesigned and launched within a couple/few weeks. I will also be expanding the VaFlash staff from one to many! In addition to expanding beyond a one man shop, we will also be expanding VAFlash to include hardware and software reviews, editorials, and basically everything and anything related to Flight Simulation. This has been in the plans for quite some time but was delayed due to multiple reasons.

Look for more information to come within the following days and weeks!

The IPS team is pleased to announce the next generation logging software: the Integrated Pirep System for Virtual Airlines.

Most virtual airlines use logging software like FSAcars. This brings two major disadvantages: those software programs can crash, which results in losses of flightlogs, and they are mostly not compatible with other operating systems than Windows. The IPS solves these two big problems, because it is not based on a flight logging client.

The Integrated Pirep System (or IPS) is a free PHP-based flight logger which runs on the web server of a Virtual Airline. Because of that, no pilot client is required. The IPS gets it data from IVAO, VATSIM or both. It can automatically detect flights or use a flight booking system to log flights.

And to help you integrate the IPS into your VA website, they offer affordable integration services, available at their website:

I would like to wish everyone out there a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and prosperous New Year!

2009 was a great year and we saw lots of transition at VAFlash.com. The site was brought back from the brink of extinction partly because of the generosity of the J.A, the founder and former owner of VAFlash. We also have partnered with many new and older VAs alike and continue to give the flightsim community the very latest news in the virtual airline arena. In 2009 we also started tweeting out all news on Twitter.com and serving up news via our RSS feeds. Check us out on twitter at: www.twitter.com/vaflashsite

As you can expect, 2010 will see even more changes with the site. I plan on a site redesign so we can start to use more graphics in our articles. I also plan to expand upon the VAFlash brand to include news, hardware and software reviews, VA Profiles, just more stuff in general.. Expansion in all the said areas will also mandate an expansion in staff. Currently VAFlash is a one man operation; I’ll be looking to change that pretty soon. I will also be announcing some strategic partnerships in the near future, so stay tuned!

Thanks to all the VA’s who post here with me at VAFlash! To all VA’s who haven’t posted news with us here, give VAFlash.com a try!

–
Happy Holidays,
